New Delhi: A gruesome murder in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh was solved within hours after the accused allegedly walked into a police station and confessed to killing his tenant over suspicion of an illicit relationship with his wife, officials said Tuesday.
Police said the case came to light around 4.20 pm when Virender, a 35-year-old resident of Indira Colony, arrived at Shalimar Bagh police station and admitted to murdering his tenant, 29-year-old Kanhaiya, inside his jhuggi.
Acting on the confession, police rushed to the spot and found the victim lying on a bed with his throat slit and multiple stab injuries. The suspected murder weapon was recovered from the scene, while the accused was reportedly still wearing blood-stained clothes.
Preliminary investigation revealed the accused suspected his wife was involved in an affair with the deceased, which allegedly led to the killing.
Police said CCTV footage from the area also corroborated the accused’s presence at the scene around the time of the murder.
A crime team, forensic experts and an Executive Magistrate examined the crime scene and collected evidence, while the body was sent for post-mortem.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Shalimar Bagh police station. Further investigation is underway.
