Singapore: Two Indian tourists visiting Singapore have been sentenced to over five years in prison and 12 strokes of the cane for assaulting and robbing two sex workers in separate hotel rooms.

The 23-year-old Arockiasamy Dyson and 27-year-old Rajendran Mayilarasan pleaded guilty to charges of robbery and causing bodily harm. The incidents took place shortly after their arrival in Singapore on April 24.

Court proceedings revealed that the two men were approached by a stranger in the Little India district, who provided them information about two sex workers. Arockiasamy then suggested they rob the women during private meetings at hotels, an idea Rajendran accepted.

In the first incident, they lured a woman to a hotel room around 6 p.m., where they tied her hands and feet with a cloth and physically assaulted her. They stole her jewelry, 2,000 Singapore dollars, passport, and bank cards.

Later that night, around 11 p.m., they arranged to meet another woman at a different hotel. Upon her arrival, they dragged her inside and gagged her to prevent her from screaming. They stole 800 Singapore dollars, two mobile phones, and her passport, warning her not to leave the room until they returned.

The crimes were uncovered after one of the victims confided in someone the following day, who then alerted the authorities. The police launched an investigation leading to the arrest and prosecution of the two men.

The sentencing serves as a reminder of Singapore’s strict laws and swift justice when it comes to violent crimes.
