Chandigarh: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana visited the Jatauli and Farrukhnagar grain markets in Gurugram on Sunday to review arrangements for the procurement of bajra. During the visit, he inspected the crops brought to the mandis, the procurement process and the facilities being provided to farmers.
The Agriculture Minister directed officials to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience in the mandis and that their grievances are resolved promptly. He said that crop procurement must be carried out transparently and in accordance with the prescribed standards so that farmers do not have to wait unnecessarily to sell their produce.
He directed officials to pay close attention to every stage of the procurement process and ensure that farmers do not face any difficulties while selling their crops. Shyam Singh Rana said that merely procuring crops in the mandis is not enough; timely lifting of procured produce, proper storage and payment to farmers within the stipulated period are equally important. He directed procurement agencies to work in coordination and regularly review the arrangements.
The Agriculture Minister directed officials to ensure adequate availability of basic facilities, including drinking water, electricity, shade, toilets and cleanliness, in the mandis. Farmers should have access to a clean and convenient environment while selling their produce. He asked the concerned departments to conduct regular inspections and make necessary improvements to the arrangements.
