Russia Launches Extensive Strikes Targeting Ukraine’s Gas Infrastructure and Military Sites

Moscow: Russian forces have conducted a large-scale assault on multiple Ukrainian military facilities and gas extraction sites, marking one of the most significant attacks on the country’s energy sector to date. According to statements from the Russian Ministry of Defence, reported by Russia Today, missiles and long-range drones were deployed from various platforms overnight, successfully hitting all intended targets.

Ukraine’s state-run energy firm Naftogaz confirmed the severity of the damage, describing it as “critical.” The attack targeted key gas facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions, where roughly 35 missiles struck vital infrastructure.

This latest offensive follows an intense aerial campaign on September 7, which involved over 800 drones along with ballistic and cruise missiles. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that despite effective air defense systems intercepting most of the incoming threats, dozens of drones and missiles managed to hit several locations across the country.

Among the casualties was an infant, one of at least two civilians killed during drone strikes that hit residential buildings in Kyiv. The Ukrainian capital was under continuous air-raid alerts for nearly half a day.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling it “vile” and emphasizing that the ongoing violence, even as diplomatic efforts for peace gain momentum, amounts to a deliberate crime prolonging the conflict. He urged the international community to take decisive action against the Kremlin’s aggression.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko labeled the operation a “massive attack,” highlighting that cities such as Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, Kremenchuk, Odesa, and Kyiv were all targeted during the bombardment.

The assault represents the largest since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022 and underscores the continued intensity of the conflict amid attempts by Western nations to mediate peace.
