Karachi: The return of Sarabjeet Kaur, an Indian national currently in Pakistan, has been postponed once again after Pakistani authorities said the matter remains under judicial review.
Officials from Pakistan’s Interior Ministry stated that her repatriation through the Attari–Wagah border has been put on hold due to an ongoing court case. According to the ministry, Sarabjeet Kaur married of her own choice while in Pakistan, and the issue is now before the court. Authorities said she would be sent back to India only after legal formalities are completed and a final verdict is delivered.
Sarabjeet Kaur had travelled to Pakistan on a visitor’s visa in November 2025 as part of a Sikh pilgrims’ group to participate in celebrations marking Guru Nanak Dev’s Parkash Gurpurab. During the visit, she went missing while at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, prompting concern among fellow pilgrims and her family in India.
In the days that followed, reports surfaced claiming that she had converted to Islam and married a Pakistani citizen, Nasir Hussain, who resides in Sheikhupura district, located about 56 kilometres from Lahore.
The case has drawn attention on both sides of the border, with Indian authorities closely monitoring developments. However, Pakistan has maintained that the matter is subject to legal scrutiny and that any decision regarding her return will depend on the court’s ruling.
