Nepal Flash Flood Rescue Halted as Heavy Rain Blocks Helicopter Operations

Kathmandu: Rescue efforts in Nepal’s flood-hit Trishuli region were temporarily suspended after fresh heavy rainfall worsened weather conditions and made it impossible for helicopters to operate.

The deteriorating weather has added another challenge for emergency teams already working in difficult conditions. With visibility and flying conditions affected by the rain, the helicopter scheduled for rescue operations could not take off.

Meanwhile, the Trishuli River continues to rise, increasing concern among authorities and residents in areas close to the river.

Residents Evacuated as River Swells

Authorities have begun moving people from vulnerable settlements to safer locations as a precautionary measure. The evacuation comes amid fears that the rising river could further threaten communities located along its banks.

Officials are closely monitoring the situation as rainfall continues and water levels remain elevated.

Rescue Operations Await Weather Improvement

The suspension of aerial operations is temporary and is linked to the prevailing weather conditions. Rescue teams are expected to resume helicopter operations once the skies and visibility improve enough to allow safe flying.

The latest disruption highlights the difficulties faced by emergency personnel in reaching affected areas during severe weather, particularly in Nepal’s mountainous terrain.

With heavy rain continuing and the Trishuli showing signs of further swelling, authorities remain on alert and are prioritising the evacuation of people from areas considered vulnerable to flooding. Rescue and relief operations are expected to gather pace once weather conditions permit aircraft to take off safely.
