Dhaka: A 40-year-old Ansar member was shot dead by his colleague while on duty at a garment factory in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, prompting swift police action and an investigation into the incident. The shooting took place on Monday evening at the Sultana Sweaters Limited factory in the Mehrabari area of Bhaluka upazila.

The deceased has been identified as Bajendra Biswas, an Ansar member posted at the factory. He sustained a gunshot injury to his left thigh and was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex by fellow colleagues, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The accused, fellow Ansar member Noman Mia, was arrested shortly after the incident during a police operation.

According to police and local sources, around 20 Ansar personnel were deployed at the factory at the time. Bajendra Biswas and Noman Mia were reportedly sitting together when the latter allegedly fired a shot from his service shotgun. An eyewitness said there was no visible argument or dispute between the two before the shooting. It was alleged that Noman Mia pointed the weapon at Bajendra and fired after making a remark moments earlier, before fleeing the spot.

Confirming the incident, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police of Mymensingh district, said the accused was taken into custody and a detailed probe has been initiated to establish the exact circumstances leading to the shooting. The victim’s body has been sent to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The incident has raised concerns over firearm safety and internal discipline among security personnel deployed at industrial establishments in the region.
