Lucknow: The Election Commission has revised the timeline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, with the draft voter list now set to be published on January 6, 2026, and the final roll scheduled for release on March 6. The revised schedule was announced by Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa on Tuesday.
Under the updated plan, the period for filing claims and objections will run from January 6 to February 6. During this phase, authorities will process notices, dispose of claims and objections, and take decisions on enumeration forms, a process that will continue until February 27. The final electoral roll will be published shortly after, on March 6.
The change in schedule comes amid increased scrutiny of the Special Intensive Revision exercise in the state, which has seen large-scale deletion of names from the voter list. The nearly 52-day exercise, conducted under the theme “Shuddh Nirvachak Namavali, Majboot Loktantra” (Clean Electoral Roll, Strong Democracy), began on November 4 and concluded on December 26 after being extended twice.
According to official data, the draft electoral roll is expected to include around 12.55 crore voters. Nearly 2.89 crore names have been removed from the pre-revision list due to reasons such as death, change of residence, or duplication arising from enrolment in multiple places. Officials said voters whose names have been deleted will have the opportunity to challenge the decision during the claims and objections period.
Rinwa said affected voters can reapply for inclusion using Form 6, which will also be available for new voters, while objections to the inclusion of any name in the draft roll can be raised through Form 7. He added that over one crore voters in the draft list fall under the “unmapped” category and will need to submit self-attested documents prescribed by the Election Commission to ensure their names are retained in the final roll.
The revision exercise has sparked political controversy in Uttar Pradesh, with opposition parties alleging bias in the deletion of names. The ruling BJP has rejected these allegations, maintaining that the process is transparent and aimed at ensuring clean and accurate electoral rolls.
