Delhi: India batting stalwart Virat Kohli on Wednesday surpassed legendary Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to score 16,000 runs in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 330 innings during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The landmark came in Delhi’s opening Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Andhra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Tendulkar had earlier achieved the same feat in 391 innings, making Kohli’s achievement a significant leap ahead of the iconic former India captain.

At 37, Kohli continues to redefine consistency in limited-overs cricket. With this milestone, he now holds the record for being the fastest batter to reach every 1,000-run mark in List A cricket from 10,000 runs onwards, underlining his dominance in the format.

Kohli is featuring in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a gap of 15 years, yet his record in India’s premier domestic one-day competition remains exceptional. He has amassed 819 runs in 13 matches at an average of 68.25 and a strike rate of 106, including four centuries and three half-centuries.

Having retired from Test cricket and T20 Internationals, Kohli is now focused solely on the ODI format. His next assignment for India is expected to be the home ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on January 11.
