Aichi-Nagoya: Indian golfer Pranavi Urs etched her name into the record books on Saturday by capturing the individual women’s gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, becoming the first female golfer from the country to achieve the feat. The 23-year-old displayed remarkable resilience during a tense final round at the Kasugai Country Club’s East Course to close out a one-stroke victory.
Urs carried a three-stroke lead into the final day but faced immediate adversity after conceding a triple bogey on the par-4 third hole. Demonstrating exceptional composure, she rebounded with a birdie on the sixth hole and maintained steady par saves through the back nine. She carded an even-par 70 to aggregate a winning total of 15-under 265 across four rounds.
The triumph halted a 24-year drought for Indian golf at the continental showpiece, securing the nation’s first individual gold since Shiv Kapur won the men’s event at the 2002 Busan Games. Singapore’s Shannon Xuan Yin Tan and China’s major winner Yin Ruoning finished tied for second at 14-under 266, with Yin claiming the silver medal following a sudden-death playoff.
Urs expanded India’s podium haul later in the day by joining forces with Tokyo Olympian Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar to clinch silver in the women’s team championship with a cumulative score of 14-under 546, behind gold medallists China. Ashok signed off with a three-under 67 to place 14th individually, while Dagar concluded tied for 18th, capping a historic outing for Indian golf on the international stage.
