New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Olympic and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra along with his wife, Himani Mor, at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The Prime Minister later shared details of the meeting on social media, describing it as a warm and engaging exchange that touched upon sports and related subjects.
Posting photographs from the interaction on X, Modi said the discussion covered a range of issues, with a special focus on the role of sports in nation-building. The meeting highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to stay connected with leading athletes and encourage sporting excellence across the country.
Neeraj Chopra, one of India’s most celebrated sportspersons, has consistently received praise from the Prime Minister for his achievements on the global stage and for motivating young Indians to take up sports. His success has often been cited as a symbol of India’s growing presence in international athletics.
The meeting also marked one of the athlete’s first public interactions with the Prime Minister since his marriage. Chopra married Himani Mor earlier this year in a low-key ceremony that came as a surprise to many. Himani, a native of Larsauli village in Haryana’s Sonepat district, is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in sports management and administration at the McCormack Isenberg School of Management in the United States.
The interaction reflected the Prime Minister’s continued focus on engaging with achievers from the sporting world and reinforcing the importance of sports in India’s development journey.
