Bengaluru: Four engineering students were allegedly abducted and robbed of around ₹1.5 lakh on the outskirts of Bengaluru after a late-night visit to a food outlet, police officials said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the early hours of December 21, when the students, all enrolled at a private engineering college in Bagalur, were riding back on two-wheelers after stopping for biryani at a well-known eatery in Hoskote. According to investigators, their journey was interrupted near a toll plaza, where a group of men allegedly blocked their path.

Police said the assailants physically assaulted the students and seized their mobile phones and motorcycles before forcing them to a nearby shed in the Medahalli area. The victims were reportedly confined there for some time while the attackers took cash and accessed their bank accounts.

A senior police officer stated that about ₹40,000 was taken in cash, while an additional ₹1.1 lakh was transferred electronically from the students’ accounts. The motorcycles were later returned to the victims, though the mobile phones were taken away.

Following a complaint filed by one of the students, Avalahalli police registered a case invoking provisions related to abduction and robbery. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the crime, and police teams are continuing efforts to trace and apprehend the remaining members of the gang.

Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were involved in similar incidents in the area, police added.
