New Delhi: India received a major boost in the men’s javelin throw event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh all secured places in the final after finishing among the top 12 in the qualification round.
Although the Indian trio did not produce their best throws during qualification, they did enough to progress to the medal round.
Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra finished fifth with a best throw of 79.61 metres. Rohit Yadav qualified in ninth place after registering 78.37 metres, while Yashvir Singh advanced in 10th with a throw of 78.36 metres.
Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Pathirage topped the qualification standings with an impressive throw of 82.84 metres, followed by Anderson Peters of Grenada at 81.29 metres and South Africa’s Douw Smit with 80.64 metres. England’s Ben East finished fourth with 80.38 metres.
Pakistan’s reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem also progressed to the final, finishing seventh with a best throw of 78.63 metres.
With three athletes reaching the final, India will now look to challenge for medals in one of the marquee athletics events of the Commonwealth Games.
