Jalandhar: A violent shooting incident in Jalandhar’s Dashmesh Nagar area has left one young man dead and another critically injured, triggering panic among local residents. The attack, believed to be linked to an earlier personal dispute, took place while the victims were reportedly on their way to seek medical treatment.
According to preliminary information, the confrontation has its roots in an altercation that occurred a day earlier. One of the victims, Simarjit Singh alias Pappu, who worked as an electrician, had allegedly been assaulted during the previous clash and was being taken to a hospital when the assailants intercepted the group.
Witnesses claimed that armed attackers blocked their path near Dashmesh Nagar and opened fire without warning. Simarjit Singh sustained serious bullet injuries and was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors later declared him dead. Another youth accompanying him suffered gunshot wounds and remains under treatment in critical condition.
Locals said the attackers fled immediately after the incident, leaving chaos at the scene. The broad daylight violence has raised concerns over public safety in the locality and shocked residents of the area.
Police personnel from Bhargav Camp police station reached the spot soon after receiving information about the firing. The crime scene was examined, evidence was collected and an investigation was initiated to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Authorities are probing whether the shooting was a continuation of the earlier dispute between the two groups. Investigators are also reviewing eyewitness accounts and other available evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over escalating gang rivalry and violent personal disputes in urban neighbourhoods, with residents demanding swift action to ensure those involved are brought to justice and law and order is maintained.
