New Delhi: India achieved a significant milestone in defence preparedness after the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out three back-to-back flight tests showcasing its growing capability to counter modern missile threats and enhance maritime security.

The series of trials demonstrated the effectiveness of India’s multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) architecture while also marking the successful maiden flight test of a medium-range Naval Anti-Ship Missile, reflecting the country’s expanding indigenous defence capabilities.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the scientists and engineers associated with the programme, stating that the interceptors accurately neutralised their designated targets during the tests. He noted that the systems have been developed using advanced technologies capable of addressing evolving security challenges and sophisticated missile threats.

According to the Defence Minister, the successful trials place India among a select group of nations possessing the technological capability to intercept long-range ballistic missiles, including those in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) category. The achievement represents a major boost to the country’s strategic defence infrastructure and self-reliance in critical military technologies.

Another key highlight of the exercise was the successful demonstration of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range system. Designed to enhance maritime strike capability, the missile is expected to strengthen the Indian Navy’s ability to engage hostile vessels at significant distances and reinforce security across India’s vast maritime domain.

The successful completion of all three tests underlines DRDO’s continued progress in developing indigenous defence platforms and advanced weapon systems. Defence experts believe these capabilities will significantly enhance India’s preparedness against future aerial and maritime threats while reducing dependence on imported technologies.

The latest achievement also aligns with the government’s emphasis on strengthening domestic defence manufacturing under the vision of self-reliant India, further establishing the country’s position as an emerging global leader in advanced military technology.
