AMRITSAR, PUNJAB — A wave of panic swept through Daburji village on the outskirts of Amritsar on Monday after several gunmen opened fire at a mobile phone shop, leaving a young man fighting for his life. The entire incident was captured on the store’s CCTV cameras, providing police with crucial evidence of the brazen daylight attack.
According to eyewitnesses and initial police reports, a group of armed youths arrived at the shop and began firing indiscriminately. One individual sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff described his condition as critical.
Investigation Points to Personal Enmity
Preliminary investigations by the Amritsar police suggest the shooting was the fallout of a personal dispute that had occurred between the groups a few days ago. The CCTV footage shows the attackers arriving and firing several rounds before fleeing the scene. Officers have seized the digital video recorder (DVR) and have identified some of the suspects based on the high-definition visuals.
“We have registered a case and are conducting raids at several locations to nab the culprits,” a senior police official stated at the scene. “The footage is very clear, and we expect to make arrests shortly. We are also looking into whether any organized gang was involved or if this was strictly a local rivalry.”
Rising Law and Order Concerns
The incident has once again turned the spotlight on the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the border state. Residents of Daburji and surrounding areas expressed anger and fear, noting that shereer acts of violence are becoming increasingly common.
“People are terrified to even stand at their own shops,” said a local village elder. “If young men can carry guns and open fire in broad daylight in a busy market, where is the fear of the police?”
The Punjab Police has increased patrolling in the Amritsar rural belt following the incident, but the growing frequency of shootings, robberies, and gang-related violence continues to be a major challenge for the state administration.
