Fatehgarh Sahib — A rare gesture of communal unity and humanity emerged today in Jakhwali, a village blessed by the presence of the ninth Sikh Guru and home to the historic Gurdwara Manji Sahib. Maat̲a Rajinder Kaur, wife of the late Jarnail Singh, and her family, who follow the Sikh faith, donated five marlas of land for the construction of a mosque after noticing the difficulties faced by the local Muslim community in offering prayers.
The decision by the family has drawn widespread appreciation across the area and has strengthened the spirit of social harmony within the village.
The foundation stone for the mosque was laid in the presence of Punjab’s Shahi Imam, Maulana Muhammad Usman Rehmani Ludhianvi, who specially attended the ceremony. After performing the foundation rituals, he said that Punjab continues to send the world a timeless message of brotherhood, love, and peaceful coexistence.
He added that people in Punjab have always understood, valued, and respected all faiths. Even in times of rising discord, Punjab has consistently upheld the ideals of compassion and communal unity. He described the Jakhwali initiative as an inspiring example for the entire region.
Residents across all communities have praised the Sikh family’s contribution, calling it a reaffirmation of Punjab’s cultural roots built on compassion, humanity, and shared living. The act has once again highlighted the deep tradition of Sikh–Muslim unity that has shaped the social fabric of the state.
