Chandigarh: The final phase of this year’s monsoon is moving out of Punjab, with the system expected to retreat completely by September 20. As it withdraws, several parts of the state may witness light showers over the next two days.
The Meteorological Department has predicted rain for seven districts, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Mohali, Nawanshahr, and Fatehgarh Sahib. The remaining regions are likely to experience dry weather with normal conditions.
Ludhiana remains hottest
Even as the monsoon shows signs of withdrawal, heat continued to grip certain parts of the state. Ludhiana reported the highest temperature at 37.1°C, while Mansa followed at 36.6°C. Bathinda recorded a minimum of 24°C. Officials expect a slight drop in mercury levels after the showers, which could ease the muggy conditions troubling residents for the past week.
Relief for farmers
Agricultural experts say the light rain will prove beneficial for farmers, especially those preparing fields for the next crop cycle. The department has advised farmers to secure their produce and plan precautions in advance to prevent damage.
Rivers receding, weather improving
Meanwhile, with rainfall reducing in the hilly regions, the water levels in Punjab’s rivers have been steadily declining, allowing the situation to return to normal. The state government has said that restoration and cleanliness drives, initiated under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s campaign, are progressing actively in rural areas.
For residents, the drizzle will not only bring down temperatures but also provide much-needed respite from humidity. Commuters, too, are expected to feel some relief as conditions gradually turn pleasant with the monsoon’s farewell.
