Shahi Imam Demands FIR Against Actress Sonam Bajwa for Filming Inside Historic Sirhind Mosque

Fatehpur Sahib: Punjab’s Shahi Imam, Maulana Muhammad Usman Rehmani Ludhianvi, has urged the Fatehgarh Sahib Police to register a case against actress Sonam Bajwa, the director and team of the Punjabi film Pitt Siyapa, and officials of the Waqf Board for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

The Imam said the film crew shot scenes inside the historic Masjid Bhagat Sadhna Kasai in Sirhind, despite the fact that filming is never allowed inside any mosque. The incident took place during the film’s shooting schedule earlier this week.

Calling the mosque an important heritage structure built in the memory of Bhagat Sadhna, who is deeply revered by both Sikh and Muslim communities, the Shahi Imam said the team had violated the sanctity of a sacred site. He reminded that Bhagat Sadhna’s verses are enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib, making the location spiritually significant for many.

He expressed shock that the film unit entered the mosque premises for shooting, saying it amounted to disrespecting a holy place and playing with the faith of worshippers. He demanded immediate action from the police, including the arrest of the film’s lead actress, director, and concerned officials.

The Shahi Imam further stated that repeated incidents of disrespect toward religious places highlight the need for stronger laws. He criticised modern filmmakers for prioritising profits over social responsibility and said that a sensible team would never have filmed inside a mosque.
