Batala: The Vigilance Bureau arrested SDM Batala and Commissioner of Municipal Council Bikramjeet Singh after allegedly catching him accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. Officials later recovered an additional ₹13.5 lakh in cash during a late-night search at his residence around 10 pm.
The arrest was made following a complaint filed by Amarpal Singh, a resident of BCO Complex, Batala. He informed Vigilance officials that he had completed patchwork on a Municipal Council road and was owed ₹3,72,852. Another pending payment of ₹1,81,543 was due for equipment supplied for a light and sound show. His total dues stood at ₹5,54,395.
According to the complainant, the SDM demanded a 10% cut on the total bill amount and directed him to coordinate with SDO Rohit Uppal, who also asked him to follow the Commissioner’s instructions. After receiving the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and apprehended the SDM while accepting the bribe.
An FIR (No. 44 dated 21.11.2025) has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at Vigilance Bureau Range, Amritsar. Further investigation is underway.
