Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has intensified its probe into the disproportionate assets case linked to senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, securing an arrest warrant against his brother-in-law, Gajpat Singh Grewal.

A special Mohali court issued the warrant on the bureau’s request after investigators stated that Grewal’s role appeared suspicious during the inquiry. Officials alleged that Grewal played a key part in collecting and concealing Majithia’s alleged benami properties.

According to officials, the Vigilance Bureau served Grewal three notices—also pasting one at his residence—to join the investigation. However, he failed to appear each time, prompting the bureau to approach the court for the warrant.

Inspector Inderpal Singh, the investigating officer, informed the court that notices were issued under Section 179 of the CrPC, but Grewal did not cooperate. The bureau clarified that no stay exists on Grewal’s arrest, nor is any bail plea pending before the court.

Officials said the accusations are serious and Grewal’s arrest is essential due to his alleged involvement in managing and hiding illegal assets.
