Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday announced that the state’s ambitious health card scheme will be launched tomorrow, September 23, starting in Tarn Taran and Barnala districts. A total of 128 registration camps will be set up in each district. Residents will need to carry their Aadhaar card and voter ID for registration.

The registration process is expected to be completed within 10–15 days in both districts before being extended across Punjab. Each family will receive a health card providing cashless treatment coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per year. Both government and private hospitals will be empanelled under the scheme, allowing beneficiaries to undergo major operations, surgeries, and treatments at no cost. Punjab will become the first state where every family is entitled to such comprehensive cashless healthcare.

Mann said special health camps will continue in flood-affected areas to provide necessary medical aid. Individuals unable to register for a health card can still avail of the benefits by showing their Aadhaar or voter ID. A list of empanelled hospitals will be announced soon.

The Chief Minister also stated that Punjab will scale up its flagship Aam Aadmi Clinics to 1,000 facilities, with full availability of medicines that was earlier limited to only 30 percent.

On the recent Central Government GST rate cut, Mann remarked, “Earlier they themselves imposed GST and caused inflation, now they are rolling it back.” He added that a government-level inquiry will be conducted into the recent floods.

Addressing developments related to Mastuana Medical College in Sangrur, Mann said that despite hurdles from SGPC, the medical college will be established in the district.
