Patiala: Workers employed on contract by Punjab Roadways / Punjab State Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) have launched a strike, bringing bus services across parts of the state to a standstill. According to the strike notice, the contractual employees are demanding regularisation, better pay, and improved service conditions — issues that have remained unresolved for a long time.
The strike has triggered major disruption in public transport, affecting daily commuters who rely on PRTC buses. Several routes have been cancelled or are operating on a reduced schedule, causing severe inconvenience. Commuters reported long waiting times, over-crowded alternate transport and widespread confusion at bus stops.
The management has not yet issued an official statement, and negotiations are yet to commence. Meanwhile, the striking workers have warned that the strike will continue until their core demands are met. The ongoing protest highlights the fragility of public transport services and the urgent need for reforms in employment terms for contract staff.
