Punjab Pushes for Direct International Flights from Mohali Airport

Chandigarh — A significant push for better global connectivity from Punjab has gained momentum, with Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang urging the central government to start direct international flights from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali. Kang has made a formal request to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu to approve routes connecting Mohali directly with the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and key European nations.

Highlighting the large Punjabi diaspora settled across these global regions, Kang stressed the pressing need for direct international connectivity. He pointed out that passengers from Punjab currently have to rely heavily on Delhi Airport, leading to overcrowding and inconvenience. According to Kang, starting direct flights from Mohali would not only ease this pressure but also significantly benefit Chandigarh and surrounding areas by enhancing their position in the global aviation map.

Kang believes that this move would act as a catalyst for economic growth, tourism development, and regional upliftment. He stated that such a step is vital to fulfill the travel requirements of millions of Non-Resident Punjabis and would offer easier access for people in Punjab and nearby states.

The MP has appealed for immediate and decisive action from the central government, asserting that improved air connectivity will play a key role in transforming the region’s future and opening new avenues for trade, travel, and cultural exchange.
