New Delhi — In a key diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Philippines President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr at Hyderabad House on Tuesday. The high-level talks aimed to deepen strategic and people-centric relations between the two nations, coming at a time when India and the Philippines are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic ties.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that the visit reflects the civilizational and historical bonds between the two countries. “PM Narendra Modi warmly welcomed President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr of the Philippines at Hyderabad House. Comprehensive discussions aimed at further cementing our enduring friendship and strong bilateral relations lie ahead,” Jaiswal posted on X.

Earlier in the day, President Marcos Jr received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Greeted by President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi, the visiting leader was presented with a Guard of Honour in a grand reception that marked his maiden state visit to India since assuming office in 2022.

The Ministry of External Affairs described the event as a “special welcome for a special partner,” underscoring the significance of the growing Indo-Philippines partnership.

Addressing the media during the welcome ceremony, President Marcos Jr reflected on the evolving geopolitical landscape. “Indo-Pacific is the correct evolution of Asia-Pacific,” he said, reinforcing the region’s growing importance in global diplomacy.

The visit also carries historical weight as it commemorates 75 years of India-Philippines diplomatic relations. Marcos is joined by First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and a delegation comprising several high-level cabinet ministers, reflecting Manila’s intent to enhance cooperation with New Delhi.

The Philippines President is scheduled to stay in India until August 8, during which both countries are expected to sign multiple agreements and explore collaborations in defense, maritime security, trade, and cultural exchange.
