Amritsar: In a major breakthrough against terrorism, the Amritsar Rural Police, in close coordination with central agencies, successfully apprehended two suspected terror operatives in a well-planned intelligence-based operation. The arrested individuals, identified as Mehakdeep Singh (alias Mehak) and Aditya (alias Adhi), were taken into custody following a raid that led to the recovery of a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) in Amritsar.

According to the police, preliminary investigations have revealed that the two suspects were in contact with operatives linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which is believed to have sent the weapon to the region. The investigation also uncovered that the accused were in touch with Harpreet Singh (alias Vicky), a key figure currently imprisoned in Ferozepur Jail, further indicating the depth of the terror network.

The RPG, a highly dangerous weapon used in targeted attacks, was allegedly intended for use in a terror strike aimed at destabilizing the region. Officials have confirmed that the weapon was seized before it could be deployed, averting a potential disaster.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at Police Station Gharinda in Amritsar, marking the official start of the investigation. Authorities are continuing their efforts to dismantle the larger terror network, with a focus on unearthing the operatives’ connections and links to transnational terror and organized crime syndicates sponsored by Pakistan’s ISI.

The Punjab Police, supported by central agencies, has reiterated its unwavering commitment to rooting out terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. The recent success comes as part of a larger, ongoing effort to curb the rising threat posed by transnational terror groups in the region.

“We are fully committed to keeping Punjab safe and ensuring that such terror plots are detected and neutralized before they can cause harm,” a senior Punjab Police official said in a statement. “The coordination between local and central agencies is a testament to our joint resolve to maintain peace and harmony in the state.”

The arrest and seizure of the RPG highlight the critical need for continued vigilance and collaboration among law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism. The operation also underscores the ongoing challenge posed by foreign-backed terror elements operating in the region.

As investigations continue, the Punjab Police remains determined to break the chains of organized crime and terror operations operating under the influence of external forces. Authorities have assured the public that they will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard the peace and integrity of Punjab.
