Chandigarh: The Punjab government is set to introduce a new mining policy within the next few days, aiming to provide relief to flood-affected farmers while tightening regulation of mining in the state.

Announcing the decision at a press conference today, AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government will unveil the policy in two to three days.

“Due to floods, a huge quantity of sand has been deposited in farmlands. Under the new policy, farmers will be permitted to mine sand from their land,” Sisodia stated.

The initiative comes in the wake of severe flooding that has destroyed crops across more than four lakh acres and damaged thousands of houses. Officials believe the policy will not only help farmers clear their fields but also ensure mining is conducted in a regulated manner.

The development is being viewed as both a relief measure and a significant policy shift in Punjab’s approach to managing natural resources.
