CHANDIGARH — The Punjab Government has declared a local holiday across Gurdaspur district on Friday, September 18, 2026, on the sacred occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Viah Purab (marriage anniversary).
According to an official notification, all state government offices, boards, corporations, and administrative departments situated within the geographical limits of Gurdaspur district will observe a holiday. In addition, all public and private educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities in the district, will remain shut for the day.
The annual holiday is observed to enable devotees, administrative staff, and students across the region to take part in the religious festivities, nagar kirtans, and ceremonial observances held in commemoration of the marriage anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, particularly centred around the historic gurdwara towns in the district. Essential emergency services, including hospitals and core public healthcare facilities, will continue to operate normally throughout the period.
