Sri Anandpur Sahib— Punjab Education Minister Sardar Harjot Singh Bains on Sunday completed his religious service at Sri Anandpur Sahib, fulfilling a penance directed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The seva involved cleaning devotees’ shoes, which began at around 9 a.m. after the minister paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sheeshganj Sahib.
Today marked the final day of the assigned service. Previously, Bains had also undertaken the same seva at Sis Gurdwara Sahib in Delhi. Speaking about the experience, he said serving in gurdwaras is both a spiritual obligation and a way to cultivate peace of mind and humility.
The shoe-cleaning continued until 10:30 a.m., after which Bains visited Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib to offer prayers. Following the completion of this seva, he is expected to present himself at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Religious observers note that such acts go beyond fulfilling a penance, sending a wider message of humility, devotion, and respect within the Sikh community.
