Chandigarh: A major reshuffle has been carried out in the Punjab Cabinet following the controversy surrounding the death of District Manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa. As per the changes, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has been given the Transport Department, while Dr Ravjot Singh has been assigned the Jails portfolio.
The development comes after former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar resigned from his post amid the escalating controversy. Both departments were previously under his charge.
The case relates to the alleged suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, a District Manager with the Punjab Warehousing Corporation, who reportedly consumed a toxic substance. Before his death, Randhawa recorded a video in which he blamed Laljit Singh Bhullar, alleging that he was under pressure regarding tender allocations and favouritism.
Following the controversy, Laljit Singh Bhullar was arrested by the police, and he is scheduled to be produced in court today. Meanwhile, after his arrest, the victim’s family consented to a postmortem examination, which was conducted with videography.
The last rites of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa are set to be held in Amritsar later in the day.
