Gurdaspur: A road accident involving the convoy of Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO caused panic near Adda Nadanwali on the Kalanaur-Gurdaspur stretch on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the pilot vehicle in the minister’s security detail collided with a Swift car that reportedly entered the convoy’s path unexpectedly.
Both vehicles sustained substantial damage in the crash. Initial reports confirm that five people were injured — including four of the minister’s gunmen and the driver of the Swift. Of the injured, three security personnel are said to have sustained serious head injuries.
Minister Harbhajan Singh, who was traveling with his official entourage at the time, halted his convoy immediately after the accident. His team promptly contacted emergency services, and ambulances arrived to transport the injured to the Community Health Center in Kalanaur for urgent medical attention.
Doctors at the facility stated that three of the wounded gunmen required critical care due to head trauma. The car driver also received treatment for his injuries. The remaining gunman suffered minor injuries and is said to be stable.
According to eyewitnesses, the Swift car emerged abruptly onto the road and collided with the Gypsy leading the convoy. The impact threw the security team off balance and briefly disrupted traffic in the area.
Local police reached the scene shortly after and have begun a preliminary inquiry into the incident. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to determine whether negligence or traffic violations contributed to the crash.
Despite the accident, Minister Harbhajan Singh stayed at the site until all injured personnel were moved to the hospital. He later continued to ETO after ensuring proper medical arrangements were in place.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and the risks faced by public officials and their security teams while traveling across the state.
