Amritsar: In a significant move to strengthen frontier security and maintain public order, the Amritsar district administration has issued a strict directive prohibiting movement near the India-Pakistan international border. Additional District Magistrate Rupinder Pal Singh has exercised powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, to enforce a 12-hour nightly restriction on all activities within a 500-metre radius of the barbed-wire fencing.
According to the official order, the restrictions are effective daily from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM across all police station jurisdictions falling under the Amritsar Rural district. The measure is designed to curb the potential movement of anti-social elements and prevent any activity that could compromise the safety and law-and-order situation of the country. Given the sensitive nature of the border, the administration emphasized that these precautions are essential for the protection of life and property in the region.
The directive comes amid heightened vigilance against cross-border smuggling and infiltration attempts. Local officials stated that uncontrolled activities near the fencing during late hours pose a serious risk to national security and could disrupt the peace of the border belt. The administration has warned that any individual or vehicle found violating these orders will face stringent legal action under prevailing laws.
The prohibition orders are slated to remain in force until May 6, 2026. Local authorities have appealed to the residents of border villages to strictly adhere to these guidelines and avoid approaching the fenced areas unnecessarily during the restricted period. This proactive step aims to ensure that the security forces can maintain a clear line of sight and operational control over the sensitive international boundary.
