New Delhi: Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s mother, Balwinder Kaur, was stopped at Delhi Airport moments before boarding her flight to Canada. She was travelling via Dubai to meet her daughter and newborn grandson. Her flight was scheduled to depart at 3:30 pm, but authorities intervened and prevented her from leaving the country.
According to her brother-in-law, a lookout notice had been issued by the Amritsar Rural Police, which led to the airport officials stopping her. He said the family was shocked as no prior information was given, and they would not have spent so much on tickets had they known.
The family criticised the move, calling it harassment. They said no FIR has been registered against Balwinder Kaur, raising questions about why she was barred from travelling. Her relative added that she has held a valid visa for four years and the family has no intention of moving abroad permanently. He also said they do not make any provocative statements from foreign soil and will now seek legal help to challenge the action.
Balwinder Kaur said she was troubled at the airport and told that the action was taken on the orders of the Amritsar SSP. She maintained that she was simply travelling to meet her newborn grandchild and did not expect such restrictions.
