Moga: An unusual yet serious case has emerged from Himmatpura village in Moga district, where a group of unmarried young men has formally approached the village sarpanch with a unique demand, to arrange their marriages at the earliest or be prepared for a “strong agitation.”

According to local sources, the youth, all reportedly around 30 years of age, submitted a written memorandum to Sarpanch Badal Singh. In the letter, they expressed frustration over not finding suitable matches, claiming that many in the village have started labeling them as “Chhadhe” (a colloquial term for unmarried men). They argued that this social stigma was affecting their dignity and mental well-being.

The letter further stated that if their marriages are not arranged promptly, they will be forced to stage an intense protest. Interestingly, the appeal was not limited to the sarpanch; the youth have also sought the intervention of the Punjab government to help facilitate their marriages.

When approached for comment, Sarpanch Badal Singh avoided speaking on camera but acknowledged receiving the letter. “These young men have supported me during elections, and now they have come forward with this demand. They want me and the administration to help arrange their marriages,” he said, adding that the matter has put him in an unexpected situation.

While the incident has sparked lighthearted conversations in the area, it has also highlighted growing social concerns around delayed marriages and the pressures faced by rural youth. The state government has not yet issued any statement regarding the unusual request.
