Majithia’s Bail Plea Rejected in Disproportionate Assets Case

Chandigarh, August 18, 2025: In a major setback for Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, a local court has rejected his bail application in the ongoing disproportionate assets case.

Majithia, who was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in June, is accused of amassing assets far beyond his known sources of income. Investigators have alleged that he holds large tracts of benami land and undisclosed properties, with links also being drawn to suspected money laundering.

The court’s order means Majithia will remain in judicial custody while the case proceeds. His party, the Shiromani Akali Dal, continues to maintain that the case is politically motivated, while the state government has defended the probe as part of its drive against corruption and drug-related financial networks.

This rejection comes just days after Majithia had sought live-streaming of his trial, arguing that the public has the right to witness proceedings.
