Ludhiana, Aug 4, 2025 — A violent altercation between a truck driver and toll staff at Punjab’s Ladhowal Toll Plaza, known as the costliest toll point in the state, has triggered a full-scale police investigation after shocking CCTV footage of the incident went viral.

The clash began after an argument between the driver and toll workers reportedly turned hostile. The driver, allegedly from Firozpur, is seen in the footage reversing his truck, waiting for the toll staff to step outside, and then ramming through the boom barrier before fleeing the scene.

However, matters escalated further when a video emerged showing the truck driver claiming he was assaulted by toll staff and his tongue was cut, a claim that has sparked widespread outrage. The severity of this allegation has prompted calls for accountability from both sides.

Following the incident, a convoy of supporting truckers blocked traffic, accusing toll employees of pelting stones and hitting the truck with sticks. The toll plaza descended into chaos as tempers flared.

Local authorities acted swiftly. Toll staff alerted police, and Sub-Inspector Jeevan Singh of the Ladhowal station confirmed that a formal inquiry has begun. The driver’s nephew, Taranjeet, arrived at the police station with a formal complaint, alleging physical assault by toll staff and reportedly submitted video evidence.

Police have summoned both parties for questioning, and investigators are reviewing all available footage and testimonies. Sub-Inspector Singh assured that strict action will follow based on factual findings, and no party will be spared if found guilty.

As the investigation unfolds, the incident has reignited public debate over toll plaza misconduct, high toll charges, and the increasing tension between transporters and toll operators in the region.
