Surrey/Ludhiana – In a shocking revelation, Canadian police have arrested a Punjabi youth for allegedly murdering his sister-in-law and setting her car ablaze to make it appear as a road accident.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Mandeep Kaur Grewal, a native of village Gujjarwal in Ludhiana, who had recently married Anmoljit Singh, a Surrey resident, on March 11, 2025. According to reports, Mandeep left home for a routine market visit when her car caught fire following what initially appeared to be an accident. She was burnt alive in the blaze.

However, as the investigation progressed, Surrey Police uncovered evidence suggesting foul play. Mandeep’s brother-in-law, Gurjot Singh Khaira, was taken into custody on charges of her murder. Authorities allege that he deliberately killed her before setting the vehicle on fire to disguise the crime as an accident.

The motive behind the murder remains under investigation. Police have not yet released further details, but sources indicate that the case is being treated as a premeditated homicide.

The incident has shocked both the Punjabi community in Canada and residents of her home village in Ludhiana, who are demanding justice for Mandeep.
