Ferozepur: A man accused in the murder of an RSS leader’s son in Ferozepur was killed in an early-morning police encounter on Thursday, triggering a large-scale search operation for his two accomplices who fled the spot.
The exchange of fire unfolded near the Mahmu Joyia toll plaza on the Fazilka–Ferozepur road, where a police team reportedly intercepted the trio. According to officials, the suspects opened fire when they were asked to stop, prompting the police to retaliate.
During the brief but intense shoot-out, one of the accused sustained fatal injuries, while two others escaped, taking advantage of the fog and roadside terrain. A police constable was also injured in the gunfire and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The deceased is believed to be a key figure in the case involving the killing of an RSS leader’s son in Ferozepur, a crime that had caused considerable tension in the district. Police said the accused had been on the run and was being closely tracked based on intelligence inputs.
Senior officers reached the location soon after the encounter and supervised the recovery of weapons and other forensic evidence from the site. A manhunt has been launched across adjoining villages and border areas to trace the remaining two suspects.
Authorities stated that further details will be released after a preliminary investigation is completed.
