Jalandhar: Ravinder Singh Gill, the head of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) in Jalandhar, was found dead on Wednesday morning in the bathroom of his apartment in the Jalandhar Heights residential complex. The incident has sent shockwaves through the transport department and the wider administrative machinery in the district.

According to initial information, Gill, who was originally a resident of Bathinda, was living in a flat on the 66 Feet Road area of Jalandhar where he was currently posted. His driver alerted the police after discovering his revealing body in the bathroom.

The driver told police that Gill had complained of pain in his arm shortly after waking up in the morning. Gill reportedly said he would visit a doctor after taking a bath and then went into the bathroom. When he did not come out for a long time, the driver went inside and found him lying unresponsive.

The police were immediately informed, following which officials reached the spot and initiated proceedings. Gill’s family members were also informed and later arrived in Jalandhar to take custody of the body.

Preliminary reports suggest that Gill may have died due to a heart attack. However, the police have clarified that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination. As part of standard procedure, statements of family members will also be recorded to rule out any suspicious circumstances.

Gill’s last rites will be performed in his native city of Bathinda. The sudden demise of the senior officer has cast a pall of gloom over the transport department and administrative circles in Punjab.
