Jalandhar Schools Evacuated Amid Bomb Threats and High-Stakes Security for CM Visit

Jalandhar: The city of Jalandhar is currently on high alert as prominent educational institutions, including the APJ School and the BSF Senior Secondary School, were abruptly evacuated on Thursday morning. The BSF school operates within the same headquarters where a blast involving an electric scooter occurred just Tuesday night. While official reasons for the BSF school’s closure remained initially vague, the APJ School reportedly received a direct bomb threat, prompting an immediate police response and the suspension of classes. The timing of these threats has sent a ripple of anxiety through the local community, especially as the city hosts Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today for his ongoing Shukrana Yatra.

Parents of students at the affected schools described a scene of controlled chaos as they received cryptic messages regarding “security reasons” and were urged to collect their children immediately. Many residents, already on edge following the recent explosions at the BSF headquarters and a nearby Army camp, expressed deep concern over the safety of public spaces. The heavy police presence mandated for the Chief Minister’s visit has been further intensified, with security forces now conducting thorough sweeps of educational campuses and surrounding neighbourhoods to ensure no further threats remain.

Amidst the local panic, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially arrived in Punjab to spearhead the probe into the Jalandhar and Amritsar blasts. In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police announced the arrest of a man identified as Davinder, a resident of Banga in Nawanshahr. Authorities claim Davinder is a key logistics provider who allegedly received explosives via Pakistani drones and supplied the grenade used in a previous attack on the BJP headquarters in Chandigarh. Police have also taken the son of a retired BSF soldier into custody for questioning as they attempt to piece together the local cell responsible for these acts of sabotage.

Recent forensic evidence has added a new layer of complexity to the investigation. A newly surfaced video from the Jalandhar blast site depicts a turbaned individual on a motorcycle pausing at the exact location of the explosion, only to depart fifteen seconds before the detonation. Meanwhile, in Amritsar, a grenade targeted at an Army camp wall has been linked to a group calling itself the Khalistan Liberation Army (KLA), which issued threats against DIG Sandeep Goyal. However, DGP Gaurav Yadav has moved to reassure the public, stating that no such organization officially exists and characterizes the threats as attempts to manufacture communal tension between Hindus and Sikhs.
