Hoshiarpur: A tragic incident unfolded in Hoshiarpur’s Deep Nagar on Tuesday evening when a five-year-old boy was kidnapped and murdered. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Monu, a resident of Deep Nagar.

According to the investigation, the victim, Harveer alias Billa, was playing outside his home when the accused lured him with chocolates and abducted him on a scooter. Later, in an attempt to cover up the crime, the child’s body was dumped at a cremation ground.

Police have secured a two-day remand of the accused from the court, and the case is being taken up in a fast-track trial.

Meanwhile, fugitive Amritpal Mehro contacted the victim’s family via video call, expressing grief and solidarity. During the conversation, he inquired about the arrest and legal proceedings against the accused. Mehro said he trusts the law but added that if the family wanted the accused to face the same fate as their child, he would not hesitate to take action himself.

The grieving family, while speaking to Mehro, reiterated their demand for the death penalty for the accused.
