Jalandhar — The abduction and murder of a five-year-old child in Hoshiarpur has triggered widespread anger across Punjab, with several village panchayats initiating measures to restrict migrant workers in their areas.

In Doroli Kalan near Adampur, an emergency meeting of 10 village panchayats was convened to discuss the issue. Representatives from surrounding villages attended and unanimously passed resolutions aimed at curbing the presence of migrants.

According to the decisions, Aadhaar and voter ID cards will not be issued to migrants, while names already registered on voter rolls will be deleted. Panchayats further decided that migrants would not be allowed to move around villages or public squares at night.

The meeting also resolved that no space would be provided to migrants for organizing festivals inside villages. Locals have been directed not to sell land or houses to migrants, with violators held personally responsible for any consequences.

Village leader Jathedar Manohar Singh said another large gathering of 25 to 30 villages will soon be held to discuss a broader strategy regarding migrant workers and their settlement in the region.
