Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted regular bail to Jasbir Singh, a YouTuber from Chamkaur Sahib, who was accused of espionage and sharing sensitive military information with Pakistan. Singh had been in custody since June 2025, following allegations that he had made multiple trips to Pakistan, maintained consistent contact with Pakistani intelligence agencies, and shared details regarding vital Indian installations and military movements.
Upon reviewing the case details, the High Court observed that the videos Singh uploaded featured the Bhakra Dam and the Mohali Airport. The Court noted that the Bhakra Dam video was published prior to 2024, a period during which Section 152 of the IPC was not notified and the Supreme Court had stayed proceedings related to the offense of sedition. Consequently, the Court ruled that he could not be legally charged under that specific section. Furthermore, the Court pointed out that under the Official Secrets Act, the Punjab Government failed to obtain the mandatory prior permission from the Central Government to proceed with the charges.
The Bench further remarked that the information shared in the videos is easily accessible to the general public. Crucially, the prosecution failed to present concrete evidence establishing Singh’s alleged links with Pakistani intelligence agencies. Highlighting the lack of substantial proof and the fact that the accused had already spent ten months in detention, the High Court ordered his release on bail.
