AMRITSAR — The sacred festival of Hola Mohalla is being celebrated with profound devotion at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, with special religious programmes scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026. While the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is hosting the primary festivities at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib, the management at the Golden Temple in Amritsar has also finalized comprehensive arrangements for a massive influx of devotees expected to gather in the holy city.
Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, the Manager of Sri Darbar Sahib, stated that a significant highlight of the celebrations in Amritsar will occur at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. During this time, the holy Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji will be carried in a flower-adorned Palki Sahib (palanquin) from the sanctum sanctorum across the causeway to Sri Akal Takht Sahib for the Sukhasan ceremony. Given the historic importance of the day, thousands of pilgrims from across Canada, India, and other parts of the world are expected to participate in the procession to express their faith.
In a specific appeal to the Sangat, Manager Dhangera requested that devotees refrain from spraying perfumes, synthetic scents, or chemical-based “attar” during the Palki Sahib procession. He explained that these manufactured substances contain high concentrations of chemicals that can negatively impact the local environment and the traditional sanctity of the shrine. Furthermore, he noted that such sprays frequently cause physical discomfort or accidental eye irritation to the pilgrims gathered in the densely crowded premises.
Instead of utilizing artificial scents, the Darbar Sahib management has encouraged the faithful to express their reverence by showering fresh rose petals or other natural flowers upon the palanquin. Extending his greetings to the global Nanak Naam Leva Sangat on the occasion of Hola Mohalla, Dhangera urged all visitors to strictly adhere to the established Sikh code of conduct (Maryada) to ensure a spiritual and harmonious experience for the entire community during the festivities.
