Amritsar: In a crackdown on illegal weapons trafficking, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested four people, including two juveniles, and seized 16 sophisticated pistols and seven live cartridges while uncovering two suspected arms supply networks.
Initial investigations suggest that the accused were allegedly linked to a handler operating from abroad, who is suspected of facilitating the movement of illegal weapon consignments. Police believe the firearms were then passed on to criminal elements through an organised distribution chain.
The police have registered two separate FIRs at Cantonment and Gate Hakima police stations in Amritsar. Investigators are now working to establish the full extent of the operation and identify others who may have been involved.
Police trace possible links to overseas handler
A key focus of the ongoing probe is to determine how the weapons entered the supply chain, who coordinated their distribution and where the firearms were ultimately intended to go.
Officials are also examining the alleged connections between the arrested suspects and the foreign-based handler. The investigation aims to uncover both upstream links to the source of the weapons and downstream connections to their potential recipients.
The authorities have not released further details about the identities of those arrested or the specific circumstances surrounding the recovery.
Investigation continues
Punjab Police said the operation forms part of its efforts to dismantle illegal arms networks and prevent weapons from reaching criminal groups.
With the two FIRs registered and further investigative work underway, police are seeking to establish the wider network behind the alleged trafficking operation. More information may emerge as officers examine the available leads and pursue additional connections.
