Gurdaspur (Punjab): A shocking incident was reported on Monday near Babri Naka on the Gurdaspur–Amritsar National Highway, where Manpreet Singh, a former sarpanch of Jivanwal village, allegedly shot himself inside his restaurant. The incident has triggered concern in the area, while the motive behind the act remains unclear.
Manpreet Singh, who owns the Chai Churi restaurant at the location, is also associated with the Congress Party. According to initial information, he suffered a gunshot injury inside the premises, following which police were alerted.
Senior police officials, including DSP City Mohan Singh and SHO Sadar Amandeep Singh, immediately rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. The injured man was promptly shifted to a hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Doctors attending to him said that Manpreet Singh’s condition is critical and that he is undergoing treatment. Confirming the development, DSP City Mohan Singh said the police acted swiftly upon receiving the information and ensured that the injured person was admitted to the hospital without delay.
Police have started looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain the reasons behind the alleged act.
