Gurdaspur: The flood crisis in Punjab has forced the district administration of Gurdaspur to extend holidays in 73 schools until September 15. Officials said floodwater has not receded from several campuses, leaving many buildings unsafe for students.

Of the affected institutions, 61 are elementary schools and 12 are senior secondary schools, most of them located along the Ravi river. The Punjab government had earlier announced the reopening of schools on September 8 with instructions to staff for thorough cleaning of premises.

However, in Gurdaspur, several schools remain waterlogged or structurally damaged. Initially scheduled to reopen on September 11, the holidays were extended after authorities reviewed the ground situation.

Officials assured that once water recedes and repairs are carried out, normal academic activities will resume without further delay.
