Mohali: A major fire broke out on Saturday at a warehouse storing bakery products in Industrial Area Phase 8B, causing extensive damage but no casualties. Thick smoke engulfed the area as firefighters worked for hours to contain the blaze.

Owners of the warehouse said the incident has led to an estimated loss of ₹2 crore to ₹2.5 crore. Early findings, however, point to a serious lapse in fire safety norms. Officials confirmed that the premises lacked basic firefighting equipment, which may have allowed the flames to spread rapidly.

Fire Officer Suresh Kumar, overseeing the operation, said between 15 and 20 fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames. Teams continued to battle the fire late into the afternoon as the structure had large quantities of flammable material stored inside.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities said a detailed investigation will be conducted to determine how the blaze started.
