New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Saturday issued a privilege notice to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), the Special DGP of the Cyber Cell, and the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, in connection with an FIR registered by the Punjab Police over a video involving Delhi leader Atishi Marlena. The officers have been asked to submit their replies within 48 hours.
Addressing a press conference at the Delhi Assembly, Gupta said the video in question was recorded inside the Assembly premises and was the exclusive property of the Delhi Assembly. He questioned the authority under which an inquiry was initiated and an FIR registered in Punjab over footage that, he asserted, falls solely under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Assembly.
The Speaker said he had also sought a written response from the Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory, which submitted a report within 24 hours claiming that the video had been “doctored.” Gupta said the issuance of the privilege notice was aimed at seeking clarity on the actions taken by the Punjab Police officials in the matter.
He added that the concerned officers have been directed to respond by January 12, after which the Assembly would decide on the next course of action based on their replies.
