BATHINDA (Punjab): A court in Bathinda has formally framed charges against actor and newly elected BJP Member of Parliament, Kangana Ranaut, in a defamation case stemming from her controversial remarks about women farmers during the farmer protests. The framing of charges clears the path for the trial proceedings to commence.

The complaint was filed by an elderly woman from Bahadurgarh Jandian village in the Bathinda district, who alleged that Ranaut’s comments caused severe damage to her reputation.

While the court moved the trial forward by framing charges, it has reserved its decision on Ranaut’s application seeking permanent exemption from personal appearance during future hearings. The actor had appeared personally before the court in connection with the matter on October 27, 2025. The case will now be heard next on December 4, 2025, when the court is expected to rule on her exemption plea.
